Instagrammable destinations to visit in 2019

The trend for Instagram-friendly holiday destinations is set to continue and grow in 2019, as our previous blog outlined. There are many picture-perfect places around the world, and some of these have risen to fame due to their dazzlingly beautiful presence on social media.

For many these days, it’s important to have the perfect holiday snaps as well as the experiences to share with friends and family back home - particularly since the abolition of roaming charges within the EU meaning that a holiday is never offline.

If Instagram is your thing, add these to your 2019 bucket list to up your game!

This city in northwest Morocco is noted for its buildings in stunning shades of blue; there are indeed many theories as to the origin of these colour-rinsed walls. Chefchaouen is a popular shopping destination, offering many local handicrafts such as wool garments and woven blankets that aren’t found elsewhere in the country, and its goat’s cheese goes down well with tourists too.

Santorini is a gem in the Aegean sea and consists of a group of sunkissed islands. It’s not hard to see why this location makes it on to many ‘top Instagram location’ lists; Santorini’s clear blue waters, whitewashed cliff-top towns, and colourful volcanic sands speak for themselves.

White sands and weather to match can be found in this idyllic Indian Ocean archipelago, which is also home to the world’s “Most Instagrammable Hotel”, according to Luxury Travel Advisor magazine; the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas stands on stilts over water and offers private pools, reef snorkelling, and an underwater dining experience.

Picturesque Positano, with its colourful cubed buildings set on the mountainside next to the sea, is Insta-perfect - as is the neighbouring island of Capri across the blue Mediterranean sea. Or visit Atrani for its narrow lanes, tunnels and stairways, where you’re sure to find hidden gems.

The western province of Alberta, Canada, with Calgary and Edmonton as its largest cities, is worth exploring for the stunning scenery of the Canadian Rockies. The mountain town of Banff has beautiful natural surroundings and Lake Louise has breathtaking, turquoise waters - and both look incredible with a dusting of snow. Cartagena de Indias, whose Old Town has UNESCO World Heritage status, is full of cobbled alleys, flowery balconies, and colonial stone walls. The well-preserved architecture, coloured buildings, and imposing churches make it Instagram-friendly.

Whether it’s the cherry blossom in April, or the red leaves in November, Kyoto is a city of beauty and heritage; it’s the birthplace of cultural traditions such as the tea ceremony and is home to ancient temples and traditional inns. One of the top signs and Instagrammable locations is Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, with its sprawling forest and tunnels of trees.

Lake Bled, Slovenia

This Alpine lake is the location of the only island in Slovenia. Traditional wooden boats with standing oarsmen have taken visitors to the middle of this lake of legend for centuries. The most beautiful view of the lake is from Bled Castle, which towers over the lake from a cliff - certainly a place to visit if you like photography!
