This year’s Eurovision Song Contest is heading to Tel Aviv in Israel. Apart from checking out the European talent during the week of music and seeing the Queen of Pop Madonna headlining, what can those attending the 64th Contest explore between shows?

Enjoy the Mediterranean waterfront and take a stroll or cycle along Tel Aviv’s Promenade, often considered as one of the world’s most beautiful.

Visit Carmel Market, one of the city’s most well known (and largest) markets, established during the 1920s. The shopping space offers a variety of clothing, fruits, electronics, and spices. The hustle and bustle of the market, along with its vibrant sights and smells, make it one for all the senses to enjoy from Sunday to Friday.

Take a trip to Jaffa, an ancient port with old narrow streets and courtyards. It’s been restored and regenerated, making it a popular tourist attraction. The Flea Market is not one to miss, alongside the art galleries, studios, boutiques, and craft shops nearby. The iconic Jaffa Clock Tower welcomes visitors to this area of the town.

Try some vegan food! With over 400 vegan restaurants in the city, Tel Aviv is a haven to those focusing on a plant-based diet. Take a vegan food tour which encompasses a vegan bakery and ice cream shop.

See Tel Aviv from 120 metres up in the air and with a 360-degree view from the hot air balloon in Yarkon Park. Day or night, the views will certainly impress visitors to the city.

Stroll down Rothschild Boulevard; this beautiful tree-lined street with classic Bauhaus architecture passes through the centre of the city and forms part of the White City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Of course, if you are going for the Eurovision period from 14-18 May 2019, don’t miss the Contest’s accompanying “Eurovillage” in Charles Clore Park, where over 10,000 people will meet to discover music shows by Israeli performers, yoga, an Israeli food court, and naturally plenty of souvenir stalls. The city has scheduled in the Pride Week events to tie in with the Eurovision Contest, so there will be lots of activities to keep visitors entertained!
