Best time to travel

In this article we’ll take a look at when’s best time to travel to Tokyo based on the best weather and flight prices as well as taking a look at airport transfers and attractions for Tokyo.

October is considered to be the most pleasant month for traveling in Japan as the weather continues to be warm but is no longer hot and humid. This is also the time of year where trees start to change colour in the higher rejoins.

Cheapest Flights

The cheapest time to fly to either Narita or Haneda airport is in October with prices starting around £440. September is the most expensive time to fly with prices starting from around £565. Haneda Airport is closest at 23km from the city center as opposed to Narita Airport which is 72km from the city. Although Haneda Airport is closer, it mostly deals with domestic air traffic. With Haneda Airport being so much closer, you may pay more to fly to and from it, so keep this in mind when booking.

Airport Transfers

Narita Airport

The JR Narita Express service runs between Narita Airport and Tokyo Station and takes around an hour, departs every 30 to 60 minutes, costs between 1500 and 3000 yen depending on direction and is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass, JR East Pass and JR Kanto Area Pass. Haneda Airport

The Tokyo Monorail links Haneda Airport with Hamamatsucho Station on the JR Yamanote Line. The monorail is not a JR line, but it is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass, JR East Pass and JR Kanto Area Pass. The journey will take 15 minutes and cost around 490 yen.

Keikyu Railways links Haneda Airport with Tokyo's Shinagawa Station and the Asakusa Subway Line, as well as Yokohama and Kanagawa Prefecture.

The operator offers a discount ticket package to arriving visitors which combine the Keikyu journey from the airport to central Tokyo with day passes for the subway lines by Tokyo Metro and/or Toei.
