Half-term is fast approaching. Your holiday is booked. You're excited. But let’s admit it, you’re also a little bit terrified of how things will turn out now you’re travelling with tweens or teens!
Fear not! Here are a few tips to help you along the way:
Get them involved
Ask them for input on where they'd like to go and what activities they'd like to do. You can also assign them tasks such as researching local attractions or finding restaurants to try. When they feel like they have a say, they're more likely to be invested in it.
Give them some independence
Oh yes, we all know they would rather die than be seen with us. We might not be able to let them have complete freedom just yet but why not let them choose where to eat for dinner or allow them to explore on their own for a bit.
Keep them entertained
To avoid hearing ‘I’m bored’ every five minutes, come prepared with books, games and electronics to keep them occupied during long car rides or flights. There’s also the opportunity to plan activities we know they will love, such as visiting a theme park or taking a cooking class.
Be flexible
You may need to be more flexible with your plans. Your teen may want to sleep in and skip the early morning hike, or your tween may want to spend more time at the pool than exploring a new city.
Encourage them to document their trip
Most teens and tweens love social media and photography, so why not encourage them to take photos or create a travel journal to share with their friends? Then they can look back on the memories they’ve created.
Book airport transfers
Avoid any extra stress of public transport or running late, and book an airport transfer in advance. Enjoy a comfortable journey and get dropped off and picked up exactly when and where you need to.
