Travel Trends 2020: Vegan travel

As more people adopt vegan diets and lifestyles, their holiday providers are increasingly adapting to meet their needs. This doesn’t just mean an increased demand in vegan restaurants and food choices, but also hotel bath products and soft furnishings (think leather, silk, and feather duvets). This style of travel couples well with the ongoing trend for more environmentally-friendly travel too.

Here are a few vegan-friendly options to consider for your next holiday:

Berlin’s first purely vegetarian organic hotel caters well for vegans, and can accommodate a raw food diet too. The hotel, with a beautifully modern and distinctive style, has the ethical values of sustainability and ecology; they use energy-saving technology, wood from sustainable forests, and organically grown natural materials for bedding and bathroom textiles. Visitors can relax in the rooftop spa in the heart of the busy city, or by using the yoga mats provided in each room.

This hotel, situated just 900 metres from Lake Constance, comes complete with a 100% vegan restaurant. The food is prepared with great creativity and innovation, and also offers travellers to learn more about healthy nutrition thanks to its vegan cooking courses. They provide new nutritionally-balanced five-course gourmet menus on a Friday evening, and visitors can stay over and enjoy a vegan breakfast buffet too. Or just pop in for Sunday brunch!

Why should vegan not mean luxury? This vegan-friendly resort is located in the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll in the Indian Ocean, meaning you’ll find beautiful island homes hovering over crystal clear waters, beside lush tree tops and pristine white sand. Given its location, the resort endeavours to avoid damage to the environment and it runs sustainably, ecologically, and with minimal waste; water is bottled daily into reusable sterile glass bottles, products are made in-house to reduce packaging, toiletries are refilled, paper straws are used, and many products are grown locally to avoid air miles.
