UNESCO World Heritage Site additions 2019

Every year, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meets to decide which natural and cultural landmarks should be added to the World Heritage List and protected under the convention. The Committee convened in Azerbaijan in July 2019 to decide which of the 36 nominations for properties of Outstanding Universal Value should be inscribed onto the existing list made up of 1092 sites across 167 countries.

The latest additions include:

  • French Austral Lands and Seas in the southern Indian Ocean, France
  • Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland
  • Paraty and Ilha Grande, Brazil
  • Ancient Ferrous Metallurgy Sites, Burkina Faso
  • Babylon, Iraq
  • Dilmun Burial Mounds, Bahrain
  • Budj Bim Cultural Landscape, Australia
  • Archeological Ruins of Liangzhu City, China

  • Megalithic Jar Sites in Xiengkhouang - Plain of Jars, Lao People’s Democratic Republic
  • Royal Building of Mafra, Portugal
  • Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga, Portugal

  • Risco Caido and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, Spain
